News from the Principal
Dear Stratton families:
My last post focused on our attention to language and communication as a school community, so it was so a great coincidence to read this piece about one of my heroes, Fred Rogers. Please take a moment to click on the link and consider his careful, effective, reflective use of language with children. One of the experts on children mentioned in the piece was T. Berry Brazelton, who, through a confluence of factors, happened to be my wife’s pediatrician a few years ago (!!!). When our boys were small, she had some concerns about some of the things they were doing, and ended up talking to Dr. Brazelton on the phone – he was that kind of ‘famous’ guy. I’ll never forget one of the things he said – “What they’re doing isn’t half as important as what you’re saying to them about what they’re doing.”
I’d love to hear any thoughts you have about this!
News from the PTO
From the Co-Presidents
Our second annual Stratton Family Fun Fest is THIS Saturday, June 16, 4:30-7:00pm. Please come and celebrate the completion of a great year together! There will be amazing, professionally led games for children of all ages (even the big kids!). Don’t miss the obstacle course stations by Knucklebones. There will be a terrific juggling show by the Airborne Comedians. Feel free to bring a picnic dinner, and ice cream and slush will be provided. This is a FREE event, open to the entire Stratton Community. Please bring the whole family!
The art show was AMAZING last week! Every child is certainly an artist. Thank you Ms. Campagna and Ms. Thomas!
And a huge congratulations to our STUDENTS who won the student/faculty kickball game last week! You all were amazing. Thank you to all who bid on this auction fundraiser, and thank you Faculty, for your enthusiasm, support, and good sportsmanship!

5th Grade Recognition – Volunteer Request
It is hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end. Every year the 5th graders have a variety of special events to make their time at Stratton memorable. One of the events is “Recognition/Graduation Day” when families and teachers get together and reminisce about their time spent at elementary school.
In order for the 5th graders and their families to fully enjoy this event there is a tradition of other families hosting, especially 4th grade parents.
We are looking for help in the following: set up tables, chairs, food, decorations, passing programs and clean-up. The 5th grade families will be bringing food/donations and decorations. The ceremony will be in the cafeteria, the food will be in the gym. Please consider signing up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/g

Attention 5th Grade Parents!
GO-PTO, the parent-school partnership for the Gibbs and Ottoson Middle Schools, seeks new board members to serve in the 2018/19 school year. Parents of rising 6th graders are especially needed; no previous PTO experience is necessary. The board generally meets once a month, and related duties can take up a few hours a month; there are also other volunteer opportunities for non-board members.
This is a great way to get to know the principals and teachers and stay involved in your child’s education. Anyone who is interested should contact GO-PTO via e-mail atdearGO.PTO@gmail.com.
Arlington Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Registration is open! Please visit APWPonders.com to sign up!
We are seeking football players ages 5 to 9 and cheerleaders ages 5 to 16! Check us out out on Facebook – Arlington Pop Warner, or email questions to email@example.com
