News from the Principal
Dear Stratton families:
At Stratton School, we have an unusual amount of partnerships and collaborations with outside organizations. We partner in our early childhood classrooms with Lesley University, I’ve connected with Boston College’s project to improve supervision of Science instruction, Eileen Catizone has a proprietary Phonemic Awareness early literacy program that is the subject of workshops at EDCO – I could go on! One of these connections has strengthened over the past year between our Math instructional coach, Liz VanCleef, who is a contributing author to our Investigations Math program, and other authors of the program. They have been in classrooms at Stratton, observing excellent practice, and using the observations to inform future iterations. The following is a link to the blog post of what Karen observed in one of our 1st grade classrooms, Karla being an alibi! https://investigations
I am grateful to all of the faculty for being such consummate learners, interested in connecting with the world outside the school to make the learning even better for the children.
News from the PTO
From the Co-Presidents
Summer is upon us! These last weeks of school have been incredible – and incredibly busy.
Our community celebrated the end of the year with Family Fun Fest this past Saturday. We had a great turn out, and everyone enjoyed the games, jugglers, face painting, and frozen treats. We owe a huge thank you to our Fun Fest chairperson, Laura Moy, and her team: Christian Collins, Noliko Utsuzawa, Dganit Sivan Cohen, and Naomi Greenfield. Thank you to our ice cream scoopers and all who came out!
Congratulations to our fifth graders! Stratton School loves you and wishes you all the best as you move on to Gibbs School next year. Remember your Stratton PRIDE, and come visit us!Our Kindergartners certainly showed their PRIDE–and how much they’ve grown this year–at their end-of-year concert. Great job little ones! We know you’re ready to show our incoming Ks how elementary school is done.
The end of the school year brings big changes for our children, as well as for the PTO. Several parents are “retiring” from important positions, and we want to thank them profusely for their YEARS of diligent, committed service to the PTO and to Stratton School.
Two vital members of our communications team, Deb Wachenheim (newsletter) and Nancy Fontenot (emails), have been amazing. Their commitment and availability are much appreciated. Thank you Deb and Nancy!
Beth McLaughlin is retiring as Co-Vice President of Enrichment. Beth’s time, knowledge, diligence, patience, and extraordinary management and organizational skills have made our Enrichment program (all the great field trips and in-school programs) top notch. Her excellent relationships with faculty truly made the PTO a parent and teacher organization. Thank you Beth!
Christian Collins is retiring as Treasurer. Christian is not only smart, responsible, ethical, and patient–he is great fun. Along with balancing our books, safeguarding our accounts, and managing risk, Christian filled (and emptied) storage units, answered a zillion questions, and led group games at community events. Thank you Christian!
Beth Saunders is retiring as Co-President. Beth’s dedication to Stratton School and this PTO, her availability to all, her organizational prowess, her great working relationship with the faculty, and her efforts to help everyone be part of the PTO have strengthened both this group and this school. On a personal note, it has been an absolute privilege for me (Bryn) to work closely with Beth this year, and I am grateful for her friendship. Thank you Beth!
Have a wonderful summer Stratton!

Attention 5th Grade Parents!
GO-PTO, the parent-school partnership for the Gibbs and Ottoson Middle Schools, seeks new board members to serve in the 2018/19 school year. Parents of rising 6th graders are especially needed; no previous PTO experience is necessary. The board generally meets once a month, and related duties can take up a few hours a month; there are also other volunteer opportunities for non-board members.
This is a great way to get to know the principals and teachers and stay involved in your child’s education. Anyone who is interested should contact GO-PTO via e-mail atdearGO.PTO@gmail.com.
Arlington Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Registration is open! Please visit APWPonders.com to sign up!
We are seeking football players ages 5 to 9 and cheerleaders ages 5 to 16! Check us out out on Facebook – Arlington Pop Warner, or email questions to email@example.com
